Today I had the pleasure of meeting with a very successful commercial Realtor. I asked him if he knew the difference between himself and others in his industry that aren't quite as successful. He said - "It is really quite simple... Others in my office will wait for the phone to ring and if it doesn't ring, they figure that it probably won't and they will either go fishing, go shopping, go home, or they will do anything except work." He simply stated that his philosophy is to make something happen, make phone calls instead of waiting for people to call him...be productive. Last year was a great year for him but he has already surpassed last year with his year to date numbers. He said he works hard 6 days a week so that later in his life he won't have to.
Can the difference between successful people simply be things like work ethic, attitude and determination? I think it may be. It is easy to slip in to a rut without even knowing it. We have to stay focused to keep from it happening...but it really comes down to our choice. It does not matter so much what the economy has to offer us, it has more with what we have to offer the economy. (Hey, that is an original I think... I like that quote).
My sales coach once gave me the history lesson on why the traditional work week is only 40 hours long... UNIONS! If you go back to what God designed, the work week was actually 6 days long and then a day of rest. Interesting... I am not advocating that we need to work more and spend less time with family but I am wholeheartedly agreeing with this Realtor, that hard work and focused work will enable us to spend more quality time with our family when the time comes. Back in the day that the Bible was written, television, facebook and other media did not exist either so there was quality time spent with family in the evenings and also on that special day called Shabbat.
Something to think about...
